Standard test vehicles for each class of licence

A bus or truck more than 8 tonne GVM, with not more than two axles. |

A bus or a truck more than 15 tonne GVM, with at least three axles. |

HC (heavy combination) |
A prime mover more than 15 tonne GVM with at least three axles and semi-trailer with at least two axles. A truck more than 15 tonne GVM with at least three axles and trailer more than 9 tonne GVM with at least two axles. |
On-road driving test times
The on-road driving test times for the different heavy vehicle licence classes are:
- MR and HR- 60 to 70 minutes
- HC- 70 to 80 minutes.
Unless the test is terminated for any reason, the minimum drive time will be 60 minutes for MR or HR test, and 70 minutes for an HC test.
Uncontrolled and unpredictable events such as road works and traffic crashes may affect the duration of a test.
Minimum holding periods
The following table sets out the minimum periods that you are required to hold a particular class of licence before you are eligible to progress to the next higher class of licence. This particular class of licence must have been held for the required holding period within the last five years of applying for the next higher class. This period may be a single continuous period or made up of a number of individual periods. Any time your licence is suspended or expired cannot be included when calculating this period.

We offer medium rigid licence training in a Hino Ranger with a 6 speed synchromesh gearbox and 6m tray
Heavy Rigid licence - HR
Freightliner Argosy 101 18 speed roadranger constant mesh gearbox with 520hp Cat C15 motor
Heavy Combination Licence -HC
Freightliner Argosy 101 18 speed roadranger constant mesh gearbox with 520hp Cat C15 motor and 44ft Tautliner Trailer.
Multi Combination Licence - MC
Training is undertaken in our Freightliner Argosy as either a two day course from HR or one day course from HC class.
